Before pursuing a doctorate in medieval studies, Liesl Smith taught overseas in Nanchang, China, and Ulanbaatar, Mongolia. Those years in Asia confirmed for her the importance of long-term international engagement for students’ academic and personal growth in an evermore interconnected world.
After receiving a Ph.D., Smith taught both medieval British literature and history for several years before returning to the world of global education.
Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in English language and literature from Virginia Tech University, a master’s in literary and cultural theory from Carnegie Mellon University and a doctorate in medieval studies from the University of Toronto.
