Olivia Babin is pursuing her M.Ed. in Community Engagement in the School of Education and Social Policy. Through the program, she works as the Graduate Fellow at Merrimack College in the Office of the Provost. She hopes to gain a broad understanding of current trends, leadership challenges, and opportunities to advance social justice in higher education. Through discoveries and dialog she hopes to create strategies on advancing organizational development, equity and diversity for the Merrimack College community.
Olivia received her BA in Teaching from Pedagogical College in Kiev, Ukraine and another bachelor’s degree in Social Science from Southern New Hampshire University. Her experience in community engagement begins with resettling refugees in Southern New Hampshire area. This experience opened her eyes to the challenges people have to face upon arriving to a new country. After many years of working with refugees and immigrants, Olivia decided to leave her career to return to college. She understand the difficulty behind this decision. She hopes to act as a liaison to the various campus resources for potential students who may have concerns about taking this new step in their academic and professional career.
