Graduate Programs

Steve Souza

As an undergraduate engineering student at Merrimack, Steve Souza saw how competent and helpful the professors were, and had confidence it would be the same in the graduate program. In fact, it was one of the major reasons he chose to purse Merrimack’s Master of Science in Civil Engineering degree.

Steve credits the flexible schedule as an attractive option for those who work full time. “Having professors that were available during my schedule was a large priority. I can’t tell you enough how much stress it takes off a student by having professors that communicate and are willing to help.”

Steve felt the program made being a student and a full-time employee manageable for him. By day he worked in the construction management field and by night he took graduate courses at Merrimack.

He explains that there is often a disconnect between engineering/design and constructability, and that his master’s in engineering has helped him to “bridge that gap” by exposing him “to both sides of the field.” He credits classes such as Project Management to giving him the necessary tools and practices he uses at his job each and every day.

Now a Project Manager at Masterson Construction with his master’s degree, Steve says one of his biggest takeaways from the program is organization and time management. “With each class, I was able to learn something that allowed me to more efficiently manage my time not only as a student, but also in my career.”
