Glynis Boyd Hughes

  • Graduate Ambassador, M.Ed., Higher Education

Glynis Boyd Hughes is a full-time student pursuing a Master of Education in Higher Education, on the Leadership, Policy, and Organizational Development track. She is a post-traditional student on a new career path, having held previous roles such as social worker and training coordinator. Glynis obtained her Bachelor’s degree in May 2020 from Virginia Commonwealth University, after returning in 2017 to complete studies after a 20+ year hiatus.

Glynis received a Bachelors of Art in English with a minor in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s studies. Although she is a remote-only student living in Richmond, Virginia, Glynis is actively engaged in the Merrimack community. As a Presidential Fellow, Glynis serves as Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Coordinator, working alongside the Special Assistant to the President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion,  and the Office of the President, to implement the President’s DEI Initiative on an institutional level. In this role, she collaborates with the Special Assistant and campus stakeholders to provide opportunities and programming to strengthen and expand the DEI framework at Merrimack. Additionally, Glynis is an advocate for intergenerational learning, committed to developing inclusive programming for post-traditional students such as herself. Her interests also include equity and access, advocacy for students with disabilities, and liberatory education practices. Glynis believes that the Higher Education program at Merrimack College is comprehensive and creative, grounded in social justice and community building, and serving as a committed partner in supporting her career aspirations of working in higher education as a dean.
