COURSE INTRO
Taxes, ACC4407, covers the federal income taxation concepts and principles primarily for individuals and corporations. The class also touches upon income recognition, deductions, tax calculations, capital gains and losses, and tax accounting methods.
Students will leave the course with an understanding of various tax reporting entities. The class also explores the difference in taxes between corporations, individuals and flow-through entities. The class is mostly taken by finance and accounting majors.
Taught by Anthony Daigle, an adjunct lecturer in the Girard School of Business, the class has various guest speakers with real-world experience. One recent speaker, a former supervisor of Daigle’s, talked about his career path and encouraged the students should take advantage of the opportunities presented to them in the world of finance and accounting.
THE CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE
Daigle takes his time in class to engage his students and ensure everyone knows what he is going over in a clear and concise format. He is methodical with his agenda to the students and makes sure they know why they are going over the topics they are going over. Daigle also uses the class time to go over current events.
“As a senior going through the interview process and finding jobs after graduation, the guest speakers in this class have helped me realize more about what I need to know for the accounting profession and what works for me,” said Olivia White ’25.
COURSE TAKEAWAYS
This class hits on important topics for the real world outside of college. Knowing even a little bit about taxes can help anyone, as all college graduates can use these fundamental economic and business awareness skills. ACC4407 allows students to leave the course with all the necessary knowledge needed to work in a financial company.
