Inspired by a true story and featuring a Tony-nominated score by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, Bright Star is a story of love and redemption that takes place in the 1920s and 40s American South. When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives. With beautiful bluegrass melodies and powerfully moving characters, the story unfolds as a rich tapestry of deep emotion.
Dr. Kathleen Sills, Associate Professor and Head of the Theatre Arts Program, is directing the first musical produced by Merrimack College’s Department of Creative Arts, Design, and Architecture in ten years. This particular production marks the department’s return to the musical stage since its 2015 performance of Cabaret. It symbolizes the ongoing growth and passionate ambitions of the Theatre Arts Program, bringing together students, faculty, and staff from diverse disciplines to create one of the department’s most technically and creatively inspired productions to date.
Bright Star runs from November 13th through November 15th. Tickets to all four shows, and all other CADA-sponsored events, can be purchased here: https://vpatickets.merrimack.edu/
