Christopher E. Hopey, Ph.D., became the eighth
president of Merrimack College in 2010.
President Christopher E. Hopey, Ph.D., has presided over an era of unprecedented success at Merrimack College, marked by record applications and enrollments at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, significant growth in faculty ranks, the ongoing success of a major capital campaign, and investment in the College’s first new residence halls, academic buildings and athletics facilities in decades.
The Agenda for the Future, preceded by the Agenda for Distinction, provides a road map for the next chapter in Merrimack College’s history. The plan kicked off in 2021 and is expected to continue until 2026. The Agenda embraces our Augustinian Catholic mission while recognizing the challenges the College faces. It is bold, ambitious and aspirational and is designed to be successful, inclusive and transformative.
Merrimack College has embarked on an ambitious building program that supports our mission of stimulating creativity, community and, above all, excellence, in our students, faculty and staff. During President Hopey’s tenure, more than a million square feet of space has been added to the campus.
President Hopey enjoys engaging with the Merrimack community. He is fully committed to Merrimack’s mission to enlighten minds, engage hearts and empower lives.
