In 2017, Detective Lieutenant Jim Chase joined the Merrimack College Police Department, bringing with him two decades of experience from the Salem, New Hampshire Police Department, where he retired as Deputy Chief of Police.
During his tenure in Salem, Lt. Chase held several key leadership roles, including serving for many years as the Detective Lieutenant of the Investigative Services Unit. In that capacity, he developed extensive experience in complex criminal investigations, honing skills that continue to define his work today.
At the Merrimack College Police Department, Lt. Chase is responsible for investigating both criminal matters and violations of college policy. In addition to his investigative duties, he oversees background investigations for new hires. He also manages POST Certifications and Special State Police Officer Certifications, playing a critical role in maintaining departmental compliance.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, with a minor in Psychology, from Saint Joseph’s College in Maine. Further demonstrating his dedication to leadership development, Lt. Chase has completed the FBI Leadership Trilogy Program, which includes Command Institute,
Supervisor Leadership, and Executive Leadership training.
