The Writers House
The Writers House is dedicated to creative writing, reading, and thinking.
We’re a place where poets, fiction writers, scholars, journalists, graphic novelists and filmmakers can connect with and inspire students, faculty, staff, and the wider community.
Think open mics, poetry slams, staged readings, Pulitzer-Prize-winning authors, emerging writers, a student-run literary journal, internships, pizza, space to hang out and write and read and wrestle with ideas.
Baba Brinkman is a Canadian rap artist, writer and actor. He is best known for his award-winning hip-hop theatre shows, including The Canterbury Tales Remixed. He will be performing in the Writers House on Tuesday, March 11 at 6:30 pm.
March 12: Robin Becker
Robin Becker, author of seven poetry collections, will join us to read from her latest volume, Tiger Heron. 4 pm.
March 23: Bob Hicok
Bob Hicok, author of eight poetry collections, reads from his newest book, Elegy Owed, a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. 4:30 pm.
March 26: Piper Kerman
Piper Kerman, author of the memoir-turned-TV series Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison, joins us for an informal Q&A. 3:30 pm.
April 1: PoemJazz with Robert Pinsky
U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky teams up with musicians Laurence Hobgood and Stan Strickland for an evening of poetry and jazz. 7 pm.
April 2: Robert Finch
Robert Finch is a nature writer who has lived on and written about Cape Cod for forty years. He is the author of six collections of essays, most recently A Cape Cod Notebook and A Place Apart: A Cape Cod Reader. 4 pm.
April 3: Writers House Book Club
The Writers House will be holding two book club meetings on Thursday, April 3. The first group will meet at 12 pm to discuss The Tenth of December by George Saunders. You are welcome to bring a lunch with you. The second group will meet that evening at 6 pm to talk about Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita. These will be informal gatherings, and you can attend both if you like. In the future, groups will set their own times and choose their own titles.
April 7: Andrea Cohen
Andrea Cohen, the director of the Writers House, is the author of four poetry collections, including Kentucky Derby and Long Division. She’ll read new poems. 4 pm.
April 15: Gail Mazur
Gail Mazur, the author of six poetry collections, including Figures in a Landscape, will read from her work. 4 pm.
April 22-24: Naomi Wallace
Playwright Naomi Wallace will be the first Writer-in-Residence at the Writers House.
