President Christopher E. Hopey, Ph.D.

President Hopey has presided over an era of unprecedented success at Merrimack College, marked by record applications and enrollments at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, significant growth in faculty ranks, the launch of a major capital campaign and investment in the College’s first new residence halls and academic building in decades. Together with the President’s Cabinet, he reviews institutional strategy and measures the College’s success.

The Board of Trustees provides strategic leadership and thought partnership to Merrimack's President and has fiduciary responsibility for the College.

Office of the President

The President oversees and is responsible for all aspects of Merrimack College. The Office and the associated President’s cabinet represent the institution’s leadership from a wide range of areas.

Office of the Provost

The provost and senior vice president for academic affairs are responsible for planning, implementing and managing the College’s academic policies and overseeing the institution’s academic expense budget. The provost and the supporting staff oversee the academic schools and related support offices, the academic deans, faculty, and staff who work within them, and all academic programs.

Audited Financial Statements

A set of an organization’s financial reports that have been examined and verified by an independent certified public accountant (CPA), who then issues a formal opinion on whether the statements are fairly presented in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

Financial Statement Summaries

A report that provides concise explanations of the organization’s key financial statements, highlighting how resources are obtained, managed, and used to support the mission of the College. The report distills the institution’s financial performance and overall financial health into a clear, high-level overview of revenues, expenses, assets, liabilities and cash flows.

Form 990

An annual information return that U.S. tax-exempt nonprofit organizations must file with the Internal Revenue Service. The Form is designed to give the public, donors and the IRS an understanding of the mission and programs, governance and management, finances and spending, and compliance with tax laws.

Campus Overview

One of only two Catholic Augustinian institutions of higher education in the United States, Merrimack College is an institution with great upward momentum and a decade-long record of growth, innovation and academic distinction. 

During the 2024–25 academic year, Merrimack enrolled nearly 7,000 undergraduate and graduate students, including its inaugural cohort of doctoral students.

A comprehensive, research-oriented institution on a path toward R2 research university designation, Merrimack comprises six academic schools spanning the arts and sciences, engineering and computational sciences, nursing and health sciences, education and social policy, business and a newly established graduate school of counseling and social work. 

The College is a national leader in academic innovation, offering more than 130 programs and advancing new, affordable degree pathways in the humanities, government and creative arts and design, and will launch a new architecture program in fall 2026.

Merrimack is an NCAA Division I institution, sponsoring 28 varsity athletic programs that compete at the national level.
