Co-Curricular Internships

Internship Opportunities

Whether you’re majoring or minoring in English, our departmentally sponsored, co-curricular internships offer you a variety of learning opportunities.

Opportunities allow you to:

  • Apply your literary knowledge and skills in analysis and writing.
  • Gain marketable experience working collaboratively in time-sensitive circumstances.
  • Contribute to the growth of the Merrimack English program and to the stature of the literary arts within the Merrimack community.

The Broadsheet

Be one of the five students who produce the department’s monthly newsletter under the direction of a department faculty member. You’ll serve on the editorial board and oversee all aspects of production, including the conceptualization of each issue’s focus. You’ll also be responsible for formatting, writing, editing and distributing the newsletter to the Merrimack community.

Field Activity Researchers

As a field-activity assistant for special English course offerings with hands-on/field-visit components, you’ll help faculty identify feasible field destinations, activities and contacts; do online research; help organize location visits; and, schedule permitting, participate in field activities and location visits with the class group.

Annual Spring Symposium

This internship is for senior English majors. Under the guidance of a faculty member, you’ll participate in planning, organizing and overseeing all aspects of the Spring Symposium, including conceptualizing a theme for the event. The purpose of the symposium is to showcase all forms of student and faculty literary production at Merrimack.

Writers House

Working under the mentorship of the director of The Writers House and Studio, you’ll assist the director and program coordinator in planning, organizing, publicizing and hosting events held at the facility, such as public readings, lectures, book parties and signings, workshops and other activities.
