Brandy Benedict

Assistant Professor
Mathematics

Brandy Benedict (assistant professor) received a B.A. in mathematics with minors in physics and chemistry from Occidental College, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in applied mathematics with an emphasis on computational mathematics from North Carolina State University. She is particularly interested in mathematical modeling, inverse problems and parameter estimation, and the numerical solution of partial differential equations. For her doctoral dissertation, she developed a numerical method for solving equations that describe the deformation, stress and pressure in knee cartilage tissue, to better understand the effects of osteoarthritis.

Brandy has an interest in science writing as well, and has recently written for the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. She enjoys playing drums and Irish step dancing in her free time.
