Student Organizations Supporting Diversity
With 65+ student-run organizations, you’re bound to find your fit here. The Office of Intercultural Initiatives oversees a number of these organizations whose aim is to support diversity, equity, and inclusion across campus.
Asian Student Involvement Alliance (A.S.I.A.)
A.S.I.A. is a student-run organization which provides space for students of Asian and Pacific Islander decent and of the Asian diaspora to develop community, build awareness regarding current issues this diverse population faces, and advance cultural learning amongst each other and the larger Merrimack community. This organization will work to spread awareness and positivity throughout the community via programs, events, and other outreach. This group hosts events such as Lunar New Year celebrations, Boba Tea Events, and more in celebration of Asian heritages.
Association of Latinos Moving Ahead (A.L.M.A.)
A.L.M.A. will discuss current events that affect Hispanic/Latino people, what is culturally and socially important to Hispanic/Latino people, and diffuse stereotypes of Hispanic/Latino people on the Merrimack College Campus. ALMA’s purpose is to appreciate and acknowledge the diversity within Hispanic/Latino society and celebrate our unique differences. Association of Latinos Moving Ahead (A.L.M.A) Club will continuously work towards peacefully and resolutely portraying the significance of Hispanic/Latino Culture by engaging in activities that resemble the Hispanic/Latino heritage. A.L.M.A. hosts events and celebrations such as Dominican Independence Day, Paint Night, and the Dia de Los Muertos Mass.
Black Student Association (BSA)
The Black Student Association is a student-run organization that supports and encourages students to learn and celebrate Black culture, history, and lifestyle. BSA encourages and invites all students and faculty to get involved and learn more about obstacles in the Black community and their achievements. We join together as one, in hopes of making a change within Merrimack’s Community. BSA hosts celebrations and events like Afro-Latino Night, Levels of Love, and Spring Tingz.
Gender Equality at Merrimack (GEM)
Gender Equality at Merrimack (GEM) is an organization that seeks to spread education and awareness of issues surrounding gender equality and intersectionality both within meetings and on the larger campus. Folks of all genders are welcome at meetings to share and learn. GEM hosts Ugly Sweater Decorating, Witchy Wednesday, and an annual Self-Defense Class.
Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA)
GSA is an organization focused on spreading awareness and engaging the community on topics relating to gender identity and sexual orientation. This is an open and safe space for all LGBTQ+ folks and allies. GSA hold such events and programs as Transgender Day of Remembrance, Homecoming Out Day Party, and Unity Ball.
International Student Organization (ISO)
The International Student Organization (ISO) aims to facilitate cross-cultural understanding, build community for international students, and bring culture and traditions from across the world to the Merrimack College community by holding fun and educational meetings and events.
National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)
The National Society of Black Engineers Chapter at Merrimack College is part of a national organization whose aim is to cultivate members who desire to achieve proficiency in engineering and influence and improve the world with their work. The mission of NSBE is to increase the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community. NSBE welcomes guest speakers to campus and promotes various professional development opportunities.
