The Bioinformatics Major

An introduction to data mining by exposing the theory behind the analytical concepts. This course discusses data mining techniques and their use in strategic business decision making. This is a hands-on course that provides an understanding of the key methods of data mining.
Foundations in Bioinformatics
BIO 3
This course introduces the fundamental concepts and computational tools of bioinformatics, with an emphasis on analyzing biological data such as DNA, RNA and protein sequences. Students will gain hands-on experience using R, Python and other computational tools.

BIO 4
In this culminating experience, students integrate biological knowledge with computational and statistical methods to design and complete an independent bioinformatics project. Emphasis is placed on problem framing, data analysis and professional communication of findings.
