Myths vs. Facts: Transfer Admission

Despite any common misconceptions you may have heard, transferring colleges is more common than you think! It’s okay to change your mind and important to remember everyone has their own unique path to the finish line.

Myth: My credits won't transfer or I'll have to retake classes

Fact: You only have to complete 25% of the total credits required to graduate at Merrimack. Meaning, the other 75% can be transferred in from your prior institution! Use our transfer equivalency site to see how your credits may transfer to Merrimack.

Myth: It's hard to start over from scratch

Fact: You are not alone and you are not starting over! At Merrimack, we work with you one-on-one to transfer your previous course work over to us. We’ll connect you with support services and other incoming transfer students and get you acclimated to Merrimack!

Myth: Transfer students don't get as much financial aid

Fact: All undergraduate students go through the same review process to receive merit scholarships and financial aid — regardless of whether they’re a transfer student or freshman.

Myth: I'll graduate later than everyone else

Fact: Our Transfer Admission team and academic advisors work with students to formulate an individualized graduation pathway following the transfer credit evaluation.  Most transfer students graduate “on-time” — AKA, their expected timeline.
