Position Overview & Responsibilities
This position provides support services in the preparation, operation, and maintenance of the Nursing Center’s equipment and simulation spaces for simulation-based learning experiences. The Nursing Center is a 20, 000 square foot space which includes two classrooms, two dedicated debriefing rooms, and six multi-purpose simulation laboratory spaces. Located in the newly constructed Nursing Center at Merrimack College in N. Andover MA, this center supports the School of Health Sciences Nursing Program.

The Department of Nursing seeks to hire a Simulation Technician that will provide technical and operational support for simulation activities to the simulation team and assist with simulation accreditation maintenance through education and data collection.

Qualifications – Minimum requirements:

  • Associate’s degree or higher in technology or a health-related field is required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, technology, or health-related field preferred.

  • Maintains or will obtain CHSOS certification from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare within 24 months of employment.

  • Experience with CAE, Gaumard & Laerdal Simulators is strongly preferred.

  • Experience with KbPort streaming systems, med cabs, and EMR systems is strongly preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) to interact with and work effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a positive, helpful and cooperative working relationship.

  • Skills in operating a PC and Mac with experience in MS Office and the ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual (projectors, microphones, portable screens, media players, etc.) and computerized simulation equipment.

  • Physical ability to lift, move, maintain and set up computer, audio-visual, and simulation lab equipment weighing up to 25 lbs. without assistance.

  • Mechanical skills to competently maintain and use equipment in the simulation center.

  • Organizational and time management skills to keep materials in order, track various projects, maintain files, and follow through with assignments to completion.

  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information.

  • Ability to quickly learn new technology.

  • Ability to express technical information clearly and simply to non-technical persons.

  • Availability to work evenings/weekends.


  • Supports teaching in-service directly related to the academic program.

Reports to:
Chair, Department of Nursing

Functions: Simulation Technician:

  • Collaborates with faculty and center personnel to produce, set up, maintain, and organize equipment and materials for specific simulation sessions and events.

  • Prepares and breaks down simulators, task trainers, skills trainers, simulation rooms, and other equipment for simulation-based experiences/events.

  • Performs day-to-day maintenance and cleansing of equipment, simulators, trainers, and simulation rooms.

  • Prepares, programs and operates simulation equipment, and audiovisual systems during simulation events, including maintaining simulators, task trainers, simulation rooms, and other equipment/props in functioning order through monitoring of appropriate use.

  • Supports faculty, students, and approved visitors in the use of simulation space and equipment.

  • Maintains connectivity to simulation equipment and audiovisual systems, troubleshoot simulation software, hardware, and network connectivity issues when needed.

  • Maintains current knowledge of simulation/lab equipment catalogs and operation manuals.

  • Provides recommendations for the purchase and repair of equipment, supplies, and materials.

  • Demonstrates use of medical moulage for simulated medical conditions with human-patient simulators and standardized patients.

  • Evaluates allocation and usage of equipment and disposable resources to achieve goals and learning outcomes of supported customers.

  • Collects and maintains clinical and educational simulation data for analysis and research.

  • Assists in other duties as assigned for optimum functionality of SBEs.
