Merrimack’s Rank Increases in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges List
Merrimack College continued its steady climb in the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges rankings this year, leaping to 34th from 45th on the 2022 list released Monday, Sept. 13.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Merrimack College increased its ranking in the U.S. News & World Report, landing within the top 35 regional universities in the North.
In addition, Merrimack is ranked 3rd Most Innovative Regional College, superseding our 9th place ranking from previous years. This ranking illustrates Merrimack’s promising changes being made on campus in terms of curriculum, faculty, students, campus life, technology or facilities.
Merrimack is now also ranked among the top 75 regional universities for Best Undergraduate Engineering programs, moving up the list significantly from 123rd place in fall 2020 to its current ranking of 75th place.
“Given the unprecedented challenges not only in higher education but around the world this past year, we are immensely proud of our continued success,” said Merrimack College President Christopher E. Hopey, Ph.D. “The dramatic rise across each ranking is a hard-earned validation of the fantastic work being done at the College. It is an enormous testament to the Merrimack community and our ability to continually further and deepen the educational experience for our students and faculty.”
The magazine surveyed 1,466 colleges and universities and broke them into national and regional categories, national liberal arts colleges and regional colleges. From those surveyed, the magazine ranked over 175 universities – including Merrimack College – in the North region, which stretches from Maryland in the mid-Atlantic to Maine, including Pennsylvania and New York.
The regional universities and colleges were then placed in geographic categories, according to the magazine’s protocols. Merrimack is listed as a regional college, which are colleges and universities that offer a full range of undergraduate programs, offer master’s degrees but seldom offer doctoral programs.
In addition to the U.S. News & World Report’s rankings, Merrimack has also landed on the annual Princeton Review list of Best Colleges: Region by Region. The Princeton Review does not rank, but rather lists the top colleges and universities in each region. Merrimack has been listed as among the best colleges within the Northeast. Merrimack College has also been named an Apple Distinguished School for the second time.
