Biography

Emma Duffy-Comparone is an Associate Professor of English and Co-Director of the Merrimack College Jail Education Project. Her fiction has appeared in Ploughshares, New England Review, AGNI, One Story, and elsewhere and has received two Pushcart Prizes. Her first collection, LOVE LIKE THAT (Henry Holt) was named one of the “Best Books To Read in 2021” by Vogue, Vanity Fair, and Refinery29 and was longlisted for the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize for Debut Short Story Collection. She has an MFA from Boston University.

Emma teaches introductory creative writing, fiction, and non-fiction. She believes now, more than ever, is the moment for good writing, and she loves to help students wield language with equal parts authenticity, beauty, and punch.

When not at work, she’s probably in the ocean or reading by the rocks while her partner surfs. If not there, an antique store. Otherwise, at home rearranging the furniture, procrastinating something, or cooking vegetarian food with a cat or two in tow.
