Internship Coordinator
Katherine is a licensed mental health counselor and registered Art Therapist. She has joined the staff at Merrimack College as Field Placement Coordinator to work with both the undergraduate psychology students and the graduate students in the Clinical Mental Health program. Katie comes to Merrimack with a breadth of experience. She has performed group, individual and family counseling, program development and provided clinical supervision to clinicians in the field. She also has taught and mentored counseling and psychology undergraduate students. Katherine was the program director for a community mental health outpatient clinic where she developed an outreach program that allowed for clients to engage in services in school or home settings. This program enabled clients who would otherwise be restricted from engaging in counseling options, due to a variety of barriers, to get the help they needed. Katherine also served as Co-President of the New England Art Therapy Association for four years.
At Merrimack, Katherine will be working to develop the internship program and create a seamless structure to pair students with placements that will give them valuable first-hand experience in the profession they seek to pursue. She will be helping students through each step of the internship process, starting with reviewing their resumes, finding a compatible placement, practicing for interviews, and giving students overall support throughout the internship experience itself. Students who engage in the internship process will not only gain professional experience to add to their resume and begin networking with other professionals, but they will also have a formative experience that supports professional success after graduation.
Representatives for participating companies at Merrimack College’s Professional Development Retreat discussed career and internship opportunities with students.
