Research Summary

Dr. Benander is a licensed psychologist and LMHC in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He is the Coordinator of the online Clinical Mental Health Counseling program for Merrimack College. Previously, he was the Program Director and full-time faculty member of the graduate psychology programs in Developmental Psychology and Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Bay Path University for 10 years. He brings extensive clinical and teaching experience to his role at Merrimack including a total of 37 years of clinical work in inpatient, outpatient, crisis, and consultation settings, and 25 years of teaching experience including 12+ years of online teaching experience. Dr. Benander earned a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst along with an additional master’s degree in psychopharmacology from the Massachusetts School for Professional Psychology (now the William James College). He also earned a mastery certificate from Harvard in international refugee trauma recovery.
