Senior Gains Career Skills Helping Children in Need

A current senior at Merrimack College, Anthony DiSanto has gained a tremendous amount of experience during his internship with St. Ann’s Home in Methuen, Massachusetts. “I worked with St. Ann’s Home in Methuen, MA and some of my responsibilities included caring for children of varying ages, mental abilities, and familial statuses. As well as aiding children in performing individual routines successfully and safely along with recording daily reports for each child.”

DiSanto holds a double major in both Psychology and Criminology, and learned a lot from Professor Raymond Mooney of Criminology & Criminal Justice. “Talking with Professor Raymond Mooney, he has stressed the importance of pursuing a career that had tangible results and being able to define success. Otherwise, your motivation will be hindered and you’ll eventually lose the desire for that career.”

My internship was a great first step into the field and prepared me for what I may experience in the future as I move forward with my career.”

“My education has made me familiar with the terminology and understanding the materials, but being put into the field hands-on is a completely different perspective and something that is very important for students to understand.” Anthony looks forward to working in the field after graduation, and is confident that his education at Merrimack College will help him excel in his industry. When asked if he has any advice to offer fellow students, Anthony said to “Find a population that you want to work with and build positive relationships with them. They will become more comfortable around you and more willing to communicate with you, which is important in helping them cope with the challenges that they are facing.”
