Two Master’s Degrees and a Hands-On Fellowship Lead to a Dream Job

A graduate of Merrimack’s M.A. in Communication, Claire Foley attests that the skillset she gained from the master’s program helped her to get her dream job. Claire is now a Multimedia Journalist at ABC13 News WSET Sinclair Broadcast Group in Lynchburg, Virginia. At WSET-TV she researches and pitches new stories daily, covers events, conducts interviews, reports live on-air and much more.

A Double Warrior, Claire also attended Merrimack for her undergraduate studies. In fact, she’s the rare Triple Warrior, having completed a second, master’s program at Merrimack – to earn her Master of Science in Management. “I chose to stay at Merrimack for my graduate programs because it came to be my home,” she explains. “I trusted the professors and staff to help prepare me for the industry I hoped to join post-grad.”

While completing her M.A. in Communication, she served as a Communication graduate fellow with Merrimack Athletics as a Broadcast Production/Digital Media Graduate Assistant. Foley said she loved the “opportunity to learn more about the industry both in the classroom and through hands-on training.”

“Merrimack’s M.A. in Communication gave me the foundational background I needed to earn a job in the field I wanted.”

Foley’s work during her fellowship and graduate degree programs have been important foundations for pursuing her long-term goals. She hopes to continue her career as a reporter and credits her success to her experience at Merrimack.

For prospective students considering the communications graduate program, Claire has some advice:

“Take advantage of the opportunities and guidance that Merrimack can provide!”
