Environmental Academic Programs
Merrimack College offers a core academic programs in environmental science and sustainability that provides academic, research, and scholarship dimensions to the Center for Sustainability and the Environment.
Faculty from a wide range of academic programs across the college contribute to both teaching environmentally and sustainability based courses in our environmental curriculum and scholarship. Our affiliated faculty come from all five schools and have a wide range of interests.
The Center works closely with, and provides support for, faculty and students engaged in the delivery of our environmental curriculum. This includes providing support across the range of concentrations and tracks available to our students through our degree programs, which include:
- Environmental Business and Policy
- Environmental Science
- Social Sustainability
- Environmental Analysis
- Environmental and Natural Systems
- Environmental Operations

Applied research and scholarship, project-based learning and environmental inquiry are at the heart of our academic programs and are a focal point for the Center. The Center provides logistical, administrative and in some cases financial support for a wide spectrum of projects, including:
- Watershed studies and research
- Energy auditing
- Greenhouse plant research
- Wildlife habitat studies
- Environmental lectures and speaker series
The Center provides support for a number of both campus and community-based sustainability initiatives, including:
- Campus gardens
- Sweeps Week
- Energy-Efficiency Initiatives
- Student Green Team
- Environmental Film Series
- Student Mini-Grant Program
Funding for these projects is made possible, in part, through a generous gift from the McLaughlin Martin Family Environmental Innovation Fund.
