Position Overview:

The School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts is seeking an outstanding and highly motivated faculty member to join the Department of Athletic Training and Exercise Science. We invite applicants to become part of the CAATE accredited 5 year accelerated Masters of Science in Athletic Training program. Applications for a non-tenure track 9-month faculty position, to begin no later than the Fall of 2024 are now being requested.

Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate should be highly experienced and skilled in curricular development, course development, BOC exam preparation and testing, clinical instruction and didactic instruction in athletic training. Experience in simulation development and implementation would be a plus. Candidates will be expected to teach graduate athletic training courses, engage with pre-professional students, advise and provide support with recruitment, and retention. Collaboration with the Program Director for programmatic assessment, policy development, development of interprofessional education and maintenance of professional program accreditation through CAATE is expected. The ideal candidate will serve as a preceptor for athletic training students at Merrimack College while supporting clinical services in the athletic training facility at select times. This candidate should also be knowledgeable in all aspects of NCAA health and safety related legislation and be able to assume the role of the Athletic Healthcare Administrator on campus, overseeing (but not supervising) the institution’s athletics health care administration and delivery.

Qualifications: The full-time Athletic Training faculty and administrator must satisfy the following minimum qualifications:

  • A doctorate degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Science or closely related field
  • Current BOC certification and Massachusetts state license (eligible)
  • A minimum of five years of experience working as an Athletic Trainer with evidence of clinical current skill, knowledge and competence in the area of clinical instruction
  • Experience teaching, advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students preferred
  • Knowledge of NCAA health and safety related legislation and inter association recommendations and resources
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders to determine roles and responsibilities for fulfilling, monitoring and rehearsing NCAA health and safety related requirements
  • Outstanding record of professional service commensurate with career stage
  • Excellent clinical skills in athletic training to support clinical education
  • Evidence of a commitment to diversity in education, and in clinical practice.
