Position Overview

Merrimack College’s Department of Computer and Data Sciences in the School of Engineering and Computational Sciences invites applications for a full-time, open rank, non-tenure track faculty position to teach in the Bachelor of Science in Data Science and the online Master of Science in Data Science programs. This is a nine-month appointment commencing in January 2024. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching graduate-level courses in machine learning, infographics, Python and R programming, statistics, and other related subjects within our M.S. in Data Science curriculum.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop courses for the data science programs, ensuring they align with industry standards and emerging trends.
  • Teach four courses per semester (16 contact hours).
  • Actively participate in departmental and institutional activities.
  • Stay current with emerging trends and advancements in data science to ensure course content is up-to-date and aligned with industry needs.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to promote interdisciplinary initiatives and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Mentor and guide students toward academic and professional success.
  • Maintain regular office hours for student consultations.
  •  Collaborate in a collegial and professional manner to foster a supportive and positive working environment.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A Ph.D. in data science, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated excellence, or potential for, teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Work or educational experience in the area of data science, statistics, modeling, or analytics.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders.

Also desired are: 

  • Effective use of technology in the classroom
  • Demonstrated interest in and experience with innovative pedagogies;
  • Understanding of and experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion issues in STEM and beyond.
  • A research program or consulting practice that has the capacity to involve students in industry projects is a plus but not required.

This is an on-campus position as employees are essential in order to provide a fully on-campus, residential college experience for our students and the community.
