Chemistry and Biochemistry

Jimmy Franco’s teaching responsibilities are in biochemistry and organic chemistry. His research focuses on the interface of organic chemistry and biochemistry. The emphasis of his research is on drug discovery, continuing his collaboration with colleagues at the University of Toledo.

Jimmy Franco’s research interests are in identifying novel chemical therapeutics to treat neglected diseases, such as tuberculosis. He uses computational methods to more efficiently identify biologically active compounds. Franco’s research group also develops new chemical methodology, which enables them to more efficiently synthesize biologically relevant compounds. They are also developing novel pedagogical methods to enhance the learning experience for the next generation of students.
