Biography
Zahra Ahmadi is a current student at Merrimack College’s Master of Social Work program. While completing the program full-time Zahra is an Academic Success Coach Fellow. Born in Iran as a refugee and raised in the Western part of Afghanistan. Zahra graduated from the University of Herat, Afghanistan, in 2016 with a Bachelor of Sociology. After graduating with her bachelor’s degree, she pursued a Leadership Program at the Morning Start Institute in Herat, Afghanistan, in 2019. Zahra started working as a Protection Officer in a humanitarian organization, the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) and advocating for women’s and children’s rights in Herat, Afghanistan, in 2018 and 2021. Since she was evacuated and resettled to the U.S., she worked as an Employment Case Specialist with the International Institute of New England, MA, from March 2022 to August 2023. As an Academic Success Coach at Merrimack College, she assists students in transitioning between high school and college. She develops skills such as critical thinking and reading, college-level writing, time management strategies, goal setting, and self-discipline through one-on-one academic coaching meetings, team-led workshops and guided study time.
