The Knowledge Town

The Knowledge Town

A Catalyst for Corporate Partnership & Innovation

Merrimack College through Merrimack Ventures is reimagining the traditional boundaries of higher education through the Knowledge Town concept. The concept is based on creating innovation-centered districts that blend research, talent development, housing, entrepreneurship and corporate partnerships into a single integrated ecosystem.

A TALENT & INNOVATION HUB

What is a Knowledge Town?

A Knowledge Town is a community where a college or university partners with local stakeholders to act as a talent and innovation hub, integrating education, work and place-making to attract, develop and retain knowledge workers in the region.

Merrimack Ventures is introducing the Knowledge Town concept to Merrimack College. This concept is a bold commitment to build a place-based platform for change, where industry and academia collaborate to solve the region’s most pressing challenges. Planful corporate engagement is at the core of the Knowledge Town model.

Our Knowledge Town model offers corporate partners a unique opportunity to:

CO-LOCATE with Merrimack’s applied research centers, gaining direct access to faculty expertise, graduate researchers, and a diverse talent pipeline
COLLABORATE on translational research in high-growth fields such as artificial intelligence, health innovation, advanced materials and education technology.
CO-DESIGN workforce programs and short-term credentials that meet emerging needs in their industries.
LAUNCH & GROW startups through embedded accelerator and venture studio partnerships.
SHAPE civic and regional strategy by participating in a shared governance approach to innovation-driven economic development.

This model moves beyond traditional university-industry relationships by establishing mutual value creation, leveraging the region’s educational infrastructure, land assets, and capital networks to generate economic mobility, talent development, and business growth. Merrimack’s approach includes developing new approaches to activate underused space, attract anchor tenants, align with state tech and workforce priorities and drive inclusive growth in the Merrimack Valley.
