Encompass Health Welcomes Graduate of First Nursing Cohort

A graduate of the first cohort of nursing students at Merrimack College, Logan Lattime secured her job with the site that she interned in her senior year. Being part of the first class class of nurses, Logan has fond memories of the bonding that took place over the cohort’s four-year journey, paving the way for all the following classes of nurses at Merrimack. One of those memories comes alongside Dr. Janet Ierardi, Clinical Professor, who provided an extensive amount of guidance for the nursing students. “Dr. Janet Ierardi taught me how to care for patients with such kindness and compassion. Since the beginning of nursing school, she has often shared stories about the impact her patients have had on her career. These stories have inspired me to always build a connection with my patients with the hopes that I will impact them as much as they will impact me.”

Logan looks back at his time at Merrimack fondly. “Merrimack set me up for success. During my time here I grew so much as a person. I gained lifelong friendships and found such a special passion for my career. I gained so much knowledge about myself as well as the field of nursing. In a professional way, I had several clinical opportunities that contributed to learning experience. In addition to this, with the help of my clinical coordinator, I was able to pursue a preceptorship in my speciality of interest, which helped land me a full-time nursing job right after school.”

I chose to attend Merrimack because of the inclusiveness of the campus. From the moment I stepped onto campus, I felt at home and I did not get that feeling at any other school I toured. I was super excited to join the brand new nursing program at such a well known college.”

During her senior year, Logan interned at Encompass Health. “My preceptorship was at Encompass Health in Beverly. During this position, I held the responsibility of being a senior student nurse and worked closely with a nurse preceptor to help me gain more knowledge and independence in the setting.”

In addition to her time in the classroom, Lattime was a busy student. She participated in the nursing club and held the Vice President role in 2021-2022. A special memory she holds with the nursing club is when she participated in the Walk to Defeat ALS two years in a row, and was able to raise over $9,000 together between the two years for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) research.
