M.S., Clinical Mental Health Counseling, 2023

Maria Eaton is an alumna of Merrimack’s M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate program. During her graduate program, she took advantage of the graduate fellowship opportunity, which saves 50%-100% of the cost of tuition while gaining extensive professional experience.

Maria selected Merrimack’s graduate program for many reasons. One of which is commitment to academic excellence and culturally responsive curriculum, which equipped her with the necessary skills to serve underprivileged communities as a clinical professional. Merrimack holds the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) accreditation and meets the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE) standards.

Maria credits the program’s faculty members for instilling in her a growth mindset that has motivated her to view challenges as opportunities for personal and professional growth. This mindset has given her the confidence and determination to pursue her aspirations as a counselor. Thanks to the faculty’s guidance and support, Maria feels well-equipped to tackle the challenges of working in the mental health field and is confident in her ability to positively impact her clients.

“I chose to pursue a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling because it was a long-held personal goal of mine that I wanted to achieve. I have always had a strong desire to make a positive impact on others, and this program has presented me with a unique opportunity to pursue both my career goals and academic achievements simultaneously.”

Looking forward, Maria aims to offer mental health services to underserved communities, focusing on trauma and addiction therapy to address their specific needs. She highlights that mental health facilities highly value Merrimack students, indicating the program’s reputation for preparing graduates comprehensively for internships and future roles.
