As a result of a unique partnership between the School of Education and Social Policy and the School of Engineering and Computational Sciences, the STEM education major is only open to education majors as a double major towards licensure in early childhood education, elementary education or moderate disabilities.

This course will introduce STEM and its integral role in our current society. Students will investigate questions in the life sciences, physical sciences, engineering and mathematics. Students will learn to identify and understand the elements of the scientific method. Students will use tools and instruments for observing, measuring and manipulating objects in scientific activities.

This course introduces students to how computers store and manipulate the information that impacts our daily lives. Topics for this class will include: algorithmic thinking, how computers store and compress information, how computers communicate with one another, how major text algorithms and image manipulation algorithms work, cryptography, block chain and cryptocurrency.

environmental biology

This course engages students to inquire about the linkages between ecological systems, human systems and human perturbations of natural ecological systems. This course will acquaint students with some of the social, economic, political and ethical aspects of environmental issues that currently confront the planet. Students will also discuss the process of biological/ecological inquiry and the nature of science.

INTEGRATED DUAL MAJOR FOR LICENSURE

The STEM Education program is designed as a dual major, allowing students to pursue teacher licensure in early childhood education, elementary education or moderate disabilities. This structure ensures that graduates are well-prepared to teach STEM subjects across various educational settings.

COLLABORATIVE CURRICULUM ACROSS SCHOOLS

Students receive an interdisciplinary education from courses offered by both the School of Education and Social Policy and the School of Engineering and Computational Sciences.
