Merrimack College’s Discover Program provides academic advising for students who have not yet declared a major. We do not push you into a specific major but encourage you to discover the direction you want to pursue in your life and career.
Did you know that 75 percent of American college students either start their college academic journey as undeclared or have changed their major?
There is no need to be concerned if you don’t know what you want to major in yet. The Discover Program is designed to provide support to Merrimack undeclared students to ensure graduation in four years.
When you enroll as an Undeclared Liberal Arts major you are automatically part of the Discover Program and have access to all of our exploration support services. We treat your undeclared status as its own major and you get all the same support and resources you’d have if you were a declared major.
What is an undeclared major? You are considered an Undeclared Liberal Arts major at Merrimack if you:
don’t know what you would like to major in or
you have some sense of what you want to major in but are still not 100% sure
Stay on Track with Discover
We’re here to help you stay on track to finish Merrimack College in four years. You’ll develop self-regulated learning skills and learn to advocate for yourself.
“Discover helped me learn more about myself and allowed me to explore ideas beyond my comfort zone. The program brought me closer to my classmates and introduced me to some of my favorite staff who go above and beyond in helping us go in the right direction.”
— Gillian Ensign
“Being a part of the Discover Program allowed me to take some of my required core classes while still being able to explore different interests. Thanks to the Discover Program, I was able to pick my major, political science, when I was truly ready and comfortable with my decision. I am very grateful for the support and assistance from Discover Program and its amazing staff!”
— Matthew Patterson
“The Discover Program has definitely helped me think more clearly about which career I want to pursue and think it is very useful for students who are uncertain about their futures. It is a wonderful program that can help many students with not only career choices but also just help clear confusions about certain academic challenges.”
