Amy Schram

M.S., Clinical Mental Health Counseling, 2023

Amy Schram pursued her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Merrimack. “The first day of class I knew I had made the right decision to come back to school and take on my master’s degree at Merrimack,” she states.

“The program felt incredibly accessible. After some brief research, I got a really good feel for the program. I knew I had to apply and I’m so glad I did. When I applied to the program, I was connected right away to the program director, Dr. Michael Mobley and after speaking to him I knew Merrimack was the right fit for me.”

Amy took full advantage of the graduate fellowship opportunity. She completed her fellowship with the CARE Committee at Merrimack, which is a team that provides outreach to students who may be struggling socially or emotionally. “My fellowship was so important to me. Being able to apply what I  learned in the classroom to a real-time role was so special,” she explains.

As part of the program requirements, Amy completed 700 fieldwork hours, including a 100-hour practicum and 600 hour internship. Her internship at Salem State University as a Student Wellness Case Management Intern involved providing valuable consultation, training and recommendations to the campus community.

“The structure of the program is instrumental in our ability to learn at the pace that we were able to learn. The layout of the program was perfect to process and educate ourselves while also getting hands-on experience.”

For prospective students considering the Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate program, Amy has some advice:

“Imposter syndrome is real, but don’t be afraid. It is all about the willingness to learn and be open to the experiences that the faculty can provide for you.”
