STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Connor Powell

M.A., Communication, 2022
Current Job: Game Night & Communication Staff
Boston Bruins

Double Warrior Success

An alum of Merrimack’s Master of Arts in Communication program, Connor Powell is currently in Public Relations and Communications at the Boston Bruins. In his role with the Bruins, he assists the Communications Department with media operations and media relations at all Bruins home games at the TD Garden, including postseason games when necessary.

Connor is a proud Double Warrior, having also earned his bachelor’s degree at Merrimack. His interest in athletics communications goes back to his undergraduate days when he worked in the athletic department in a number of roles while studying Communications and Media.

His involvement with the athletics department continued during his master’s program. As a Communication graduate fellow, Connor worked directly with the Director of Athletic Communications, helping to create and push out content for Merrimack Athletics as a whole.

“Getting my graduate degree at Merrimack has allowed me to prepare for the workload of a full-time job and it gave me extra experience through my fellowship to just get much more knowledge in the field I wanted to pursue.”

Powell credits the Master of Arts in Communication for setting him up for success. He said, “My master’s degree helped me sort through the weeds and really narrow down what I wanted to do. And now I’m currently working in the job that I wanted to be in for my career.”

For prospective students considering the communications graduate program, Connor has some advice:

“It’s a lot of work, but the professors are really great as long as you communicate with them and keep them posted on things going on in your life.”
