One-Step Nutrition Master's Program Puts Merrimack Grad on the Path to Becoming an RDN

A proud Double Warrior, having earned her bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Science in 2017, Emelia Zukowski chose to return for Merrimack’s graduate program in Nutrition and Human Performance in order to pursue her dream of a career in nutrition and dietetics. “I decided to get my master’s because obtaining this degree will help me achieve my goal of becoming a Registered Dietitian,” she explains.” This path best supported my goals in the field of dietetics.”

The streamlined, one-step nature of the master of science program was a key reason for returning to Merrimack.“ I chose to attend Merrimack because their program offered me the quickest and most direct path to becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist,” Emelia recalls. “I was very enticed by the setup of this program and that it follows the ACEND model, meaning I would be able to obtain a master’s degree and participate in 1,000 hours of fieldwork experience over the span of five semesters. I also appreciated the fact that in this program I would not have to find my own fieldwork placements. This allowed me to spend more time dedicated to my studies.”

“I am very thankful that I chose to continue my education at Merrimack because of the countless opportunities I have had that have helped me grow both professionally and personally.”

Once she has become a Registered Dietitian, Emelia hopes to work in a sports setting. “My program has a focus on human performance, which I think has given me a great understanding of how to succeed in this area of nutrition.”

For prospective students considering the health sciences graduate program, Emelia has some advice:

“Throughout my time in grad school, I have felt so supported and cared for by my peers, professors and other Merrimack community members which I am so thankful for. Graduate school is a big commitment so having people in your corner who support you is very important and Merrimack has offered me that.”
