Graduate Fellowships in Civil Engineering
Graduate Fellowships in the Master of Science in Civil Engineering are highly sought-after opportunities that develop and boost your professional and research abilities while also covering tuition expenses.
Fellowship Types
Civil Engineering graduate fellowships are designed specifically for students enrolled in the Thesis Option in our Master of Science in Civil Engineering. These fellowships allow students the opportunity to earn hands-on experience as a graduate research assistant alongside an esteemed faculty member from the School of Engineering and Computational Sciences.
The following types of graduate fellowships are available:
- Presidential Fellowships provide 100% of your graduate tuition and include a 2-year, unpaid fellowship placement of 25 hours per week.
- Provost Fellowships provide 50% of your graduate tuition and include a 2-year, unpaid fellowship placement of 15 hours per week.
Fellowship Position Details
As a fellow, you’ll join our dynamic research team as a Graduate Research Assistant in the School of Engineering and Computational Sciences, where you will play a pivotal role in advancing cutting-edge research projects. As a key member of the research team, you will work closely with esteemed faculty to contribute to groundbreaking discoveries in the field of civil engineering.
Key responsibilities may include:
- Conducting experimental research, data collection, and analysis in various engineering domains.
- Assisting in designing and building prototypes, conducting tests, and optimizing systems.
- Collaborating with faculty on research proposals, publications, and presentations.
- Mentoring undergraduate students and contributing to a collaborative research environment.
- Staying abreast of the latest advancements in engineering
Position requirements:
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt in a dynamic research environment.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a research team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.

- Within your app, select “Yes” for “Are you applying to a fellowship?”
- Submit your application. Be sure to complete the required Fellowship essay.
- Receive your admission decision. If admitted to the master’s program, you’ll receive further instructions about the fellowship process.

Important Information for the Civil Engineering Graduate Fellowships
We are accepting applications on a rolling basis!
The process is as follows:
Submit your online application. Be sure to indicate your fellowship interest within your application. We strongly encourage you to apply as soon as possible for your best chance at a preferred placement. Applications will be accepted until all fellowship positions have been filled.
Interview with Senior Associate Dean. Students who are accepted for admission and invited to interview will schedule an interview with Senior Associate Dean, School of Engineering and Computational Sciences, Maria-Isabel Carnasciali, PhD.
Match with a faculty member. Based on your research interests, you will be notified of the faculty member that you matched with. The faculty member will be your mentor throughout your fellowship experience.
First Day of Fellowship Training: August 2025
Duration of Fellowship Placement: August 2025 to late May 2027

Additional Fellowship Information
- Please note that if you accept a fellowship position, you will not be eligible for any other discounts or scholarships, including the merit-based Dean scholarship or the Double Warrior alumni scholarship.
- Students choosing the Thesis Option who are not offered a fellowship will also be automatically considered for our Dean and Double Warrior scholarships. No additional application is needed.
- Students choosing the Project Option are not eligible for a fellowship, but will automatically be considered for our Dean and Double Warrior scholarships. No additional application is needed.
