QAI Lab is a bold research hub that fuses quantum computing and artificial intelligence to accelerate innovation in health science. It was founded to pioneer the future of medicine. The lab harnesses the revolutionary power of Quantum Computing and Artificial Intelligence.
QAI’s mission is to translate groundbreaking deep technology into tangible healthcare solutions while training the next generation of interdisciplinary leaders.
The Lab focuses on three critical pillars:
We unite computer scientists, pharmacists, biologists and engineers to tackle ambitious projects—from discovering new therapies via quantum molecular simulations to building AI-driven clinical support tools in augmented reality.
We strive to not only push the frontiers of AI and quantum research, but also to translate these breakthroughs into real-world healthcare solutions all while training a new generation of interdisciplinary tech
leaders.
The QAI Lab launched in 2024 as a signature initiative of Merrimack's School of Engineering & Computational Sciences. It unified several budding efforts in quantum computing and AI under one umbrella with a clear mission to bridge cutting-edge technology with practical healthcare applications. 2024 was a pivotal year when the College's strategic investment in quantum computing and digital health provided our initial seed funding, dedicated space and industry connections. What began with a handful of passionate faculty and students has rapidly grown into a vibrant lab tackling some of healthcare's toughest computational challenges.
Establish the QAI Lab as a research center known nationwide for excellence in applying quantum information science (QIS) to health and medicine. We aspire to be at the forefront of quantum-driven health technology, contributing to national initiatives and serving as thought leaders in this emerging field. Achieving this vision will not only push scientific boundaries but also put Merrimack College on the map as a hub of quantum healthcare innovation.
Educate and mentor a diverse cohort of students in cutting-edge quantum and AI skills, broadening participation in these advanced fields. We prioritize inclusion by recruiting and supporting talent from all backgrounds to become innovators in AI, quantum and biotech. By providing mentorship, the lab drives creative approaches to research and helps build a more inclusive next-generation tech workforce in healthcare.
Consistently produce high-impact research publications and create open-source tools/platforms for the wider community. Whether it's releasing a new quantum algorithm for bioinformatics or an AR-based health education game, we aim to make our innovations accessible and globally beneficial. This commitment to open science amplifies our impact, allowing others to build on our work and accelerating the overall advancement of healthcare technology.
