Registered Nurse Reflects On Her Time At Merrimack College

A graduate of Merrimack’s Nursing Program’s Inaugural Cohort, Julia Ritcey recounts her time spent at Merrimack. “I grew a lot as a person at Merrimack – in both personal and professional aspects of my life. Earning my bachelor’s degree was not easy, but becoming a nurse has to be one of the most rewarding professions.”

Ritcey gives special thanks to Dr. Janet Ierardi, a board-certified Maternal-Newborn Registered Nurse with more than 30 years of experience. “Dr. Janet Ierardi always told us to always nurse onward. As cliché as it sounds, nurses have a responsibility to care for others and be there in some of the best and worst days of someone else’s life. Then, once the day is over, you have to do it all over again the next day, “nurse onward”.

“On my first visit to Merrimack, I knew it was going to be the perfect fit because the culture and community Merrimack has is so welcoming. Four years later, I can say with a full heart that I can’t imagine going anywhere else!”

Julia played on the Merrimack College Women’s Soccer Team for three years, and was also part of the One Love Club and the Morgan’s Message Club. Now a former NCAA Division I athlete, Julia served as a Patient Care Technician at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center prior to her position at New England Baptist Hospital.
