Leadership & Professional Development

Since its inception in July 2020, the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiative has implemented ongoing, comprehensive leadership and professional development opportunities for faculty, staff and students.

DEI Distinguished Educator Certificate

The President’s Special Initiative on DEI and the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) offers a new certificate program to faculty, staff and graduate students who have completed at least 25 hours of DEI education and training since September 2021. Relevant experience may include education and training on and off campus.

To apply for the certificate, applicants should complete this form, listing the date, hours and nature of the training they wish to get recognized for. Faculty, staff and graduate students who complete the minimum hours required will be honored annually and receive a certificate and a LinkedIn badge. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Workshops

Our self-directed learning resources are intended to educate and engage students and staff to advocate and support different student identities at Merrimack College

Safe Zone Training

In alignment with “The Safe Zone Project”, we provide education to individuals about topics of sexuality, gender, and LGBTQ+ issues. Workshop participants will focus on developing communication and collaboration skills to enhance their ability to foster diversity in professional settings.

Participants will learn how to respond more effectively to problems involving diversity in interpersonal relationships and within groups and communities. They will also be able to use their knowledge and skills to build more inclusive work environments.

Participants will earn a Safe Zone LinkedIn badge upon completion of the workshop.

Diversity Awareness Training

In collaboration with the O’Brien Center, the diversity training will explore different fundamental and core topics that will educate and engage students to understand self-awareness to advocate for others. Concepts will include:

  • Identity Development & Intersectionality
  • Implicit Bias/Microaggressions
  • Power & Privilege
  • The Cycle of Socialization
  • Facilitating Difficult Conversations
