For Cassandra DeLegge, a season at Walt Disney World was a full-circle moment shaped by childhood wonder, creative ambition, and personal growth. A double major in Music and Communications & Media, DeLegge was chosen for the highly competitive Disney College Program. Starting in August, she worked in merchandise at Hollywood Studios. While her role put her face-to-face with guests, it offered her an inside look at how storytelling, service, and creativity come together on a global stage.

“Working for The Walt Disney Company has always been a lifelong dream,” DeLegge explains, “one I’ve carried with me for as long as I can remember. What truly makes Disney so special is the heart and soul of the experience: the Cast Members. They are the ones who bring the magic to life every day, and I was inspired by their passion, energy, and commitment to excellence.”

In her daily duties, DeLegge handled responsibilities including sales, floor stock, and mobility. She operated registers, restocked merchandise, and made sure store displays met Disney’s visual standards. One of her most memorable lessons came from Disney’s focus on creating “pixie dust” moments; small, unexpected gestures meant to bring joy. DeLegge recalls one evening near the end of her shift when she noticed a guest dressed in a Disney-themed Halloween costume. After striking up a friendly chat, she realized the guest was one of her favorite Disney influencers. They gifted DeLegge a complimentary bracelet to show their gratitude. That experience stayed with her, emphasizing a key lesson from the program: meaningful moments are the result of genuine human connection.

“It was such a simple gesture, but incredibly meaningful,” she recalls. “That interaction reminded me that the magic we give can come back to us in the most unexpected and inspiring ways.”

Beyond her daily tasks, the program also gave DeLegge a glimpse into the workings of a giant entertainment company. Living and working alongside students from all over the world, she gained valuable insights into professional expectations and the value of versatility. “Whether I’m engaging with guests or maintaining organization and efficiency, I ensure our location is always inviting, well-stocked, and aligned with Disney’s high standards,” explains DeLegge.

Although the Disney College Program officially runs through January, DeLegge already feels its impact on her future. She’s contemplating long-term prospects within Disney and the broader entertainment industry. “Being part of the Walt Disney Company has brought me so much joy,” she reflects. “This role has reaffirmed that my long-term goal is to continue growing within the company. I’m inspired every day by the culture, the people, and the magic we create.”

Looking ahead to the rest of her program, DeLegge emphasizes the importance of saying yes to new and challenging opportunities. Her advice to other students considering internships is straightforward: don’t sell yourself short. “Don’t be afraid to take that leap of faith,” she urges. “If there’s an opportunity that speaks to your heart—even if it feels out of reach—go for it.”

For DeLegge, this program was about discovering how passion, preparation, and purpose can come together. While the internship may be over, the lessons—and the magic—are things she’ll carry with her moving forward.
