Merrimack Celebrates New Nursing Center with Ribbon Cutting

The Merrimack community explored the College's new 20,000-square-foot Nursing Center, a space designed to simulate real-world clinical experience, during its February grand opening.

Merrimack College celebrated the completion of its new Nursing Center with an official grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday Feb. 13.

At the event, President Christopher E. Hopey emphasized that the center is more than just its physical space. The center will nurture and educate nursing students and prepare them to make a difference in the lives of their patients, he said.

Creating a nursing degree program that provides the finest facilities while meeting strict state regulations and oversight was challenging, Hopey said. But Merrimack seized the opportunity because the program fits in with the College’s mission and Augustinian tradition, he said.

“The Nursing Center will bring together and showcase all the values and principles that Merrimack stands for,” said President Hopey.

The state-of-the-art center is a contemporary style structure with two floors of classrooms, study space, laboratories and faculty offices spread over 20,000 square feet. It supports a variety of health science programs for undergraduate and graduate students.

The center is the latest building in the development of North Campus which also includes the North Residential Village, Crowe Hall, the Arcidi Center, the Sanctuary Coffeehouse and the Honors Program.
