Kaylyn Stewart ’23
Merrimack Alum Becomes Physical Therapist
Kaylyn is a recent graduate of Merrimack College, graduating with a major in Exercise Science. Kaylyn says that choosing Merrimack was easy after her experience during one of our open houses, but Merrimack also offered her a bonus – “I also wanted to continue my figure skating career through college, and Merrimack had a club figure skating team I would be able to join.”
Currently working as a physical therapist for inpatients at Massachusetts General Hospital, Stewart is proud of the skills she learned during her time at Merrimack. “Merrimack’s Exercise Science major provided me with the essential groundwork of knowledge to prepare me to be successful when pursuing my doctorate degree in physical therapy.”
“I chose to attend Merrimack after attending the open house where I got the chance to experience what it would be like pursuing my degree in exercise science, along with what opportunities the School of Health Sciences provided for their students.”
Kaylyn learned that it’s not about grade you receive at the end of the semester, but the knowledge that you’re able to walk away with. “The personalized class sizes within my major allowed me to form meaningful relationships with my professors. In first-semester, my Anatomy and Physiology I professor Andy Cannon was a physical therapist. Towards the end of the semester, I expressed that I was interested in pursuing physical therapy for my career. He offered for me to come and observe at his practice to give me the opportunity to see what a day in the life of a PT is like. After observing at Andy’s practice, he became my mentor throughout my undergraduate career, ultimately helping to guide me to become a competitive candidate when it came time to apply to graduate school.”
