New York City Alumni Welcome Business Dean and Students

April 17, 2018
A group of Merrimack students, faculty members, and Dean Catherine Usoff from the Girard School of Business recently traveled to Manhattan to visit three alumni worksites and learn more about the finance industry.

Sponsored by the Mucci Capital Markets Lab Innovation Fund and the Finance Club, this career trek included visits to State Street Global Advisors, JP Morgan Chase & Co., and Goldman Sachs.

The group’s first stop was State Street Global Advisors. This visit was hosted by Merrimack College Leadership Council Member, Tim Coyne ’89, senior managing director, global head of SPDR ETF Capital Markets. The group enjoyed a discussion about the culture of State Street, current industry trends and the transition from college to career.

Next up was JP Morgan Chase & Co., where three Warriors shared their career stories with students, discussed JP Morgan’s work and explained their recruitment process for internships and jobs. Jim Connell ’91, managing director and head of Corporate Third Party Oversight acted as group host. Connell was joined by fellow alumni, Tim Clemens ’97, executive director, head of Product Oversight at JP Morgan Asset Management and Tom Hotchkiss ’11, an equity research associate on the North American Oilfield Services and Equipment team.

The final stop was Goldman Sachs, where the group met with Merrimack College Leadership Council Member, Paul Jordan ’91, a sales trader and vice president of Listed Futures, as well as Vince Bellino ’15, an investment banking associate. They were treated to a tour of the trading floor and met economist Daan Struyven while discussing current market observations.

From there it was on to the Penn Club, where students and Dean Usoff had an opportunity to meet with more local-area alumni for a networking reception. The Girard School students rounded out the week by representing Merrimack College at the annual Global Asset Management Education (G.A.M.E.) Forum hosted by Quinnipiac University. Nate Wawrowski ’18, President of the Merrimack Financial Group, was selected to ring the Nasdaq Closing Bell ceremony with other students attending the forum. By all measures, it was a great week to be a Warrior in the Big Apple!
