Merrimack Hosts Conference for Cutting-Edge Design
Design Incubation Colloquium 5.3: Merrimack College will be hosted by Merrimack’s Visual and Performing Arts Department on Saturday, March 30.
“The Colloquia are day-long conferences where design educators and industry leaders come together to share their research,” said associate professor Nancy Wynn said. “It is a great way to learn about cutting-edge research in a collegial environment.”
It is important to keep up-to-date in a fast-paced ever-changing industry, she said. Events of this type help educators remain connected to industry in a relevant way. Day-long events held on weekends create fewer scheduling conflicts for working designers who want to take part.
Moderators for the event include Alex Girard, an assistant professor at Southern Connecticut State University; and Kelly Walters, an assistant professor at Parsons School of Design, which is one of five colleges of The New School in New York City.
The day’s featured presentation will be “Developing Citizen Designers: Our Civic Responsibility,” with Elizabeth Resnick, professor emerita and currently part time faculty at Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston.
