  1. Please describe what you are doing for your internship title?

The company I interned for was Brooks Automation, which is a Corporate Semiconductor Manufacturing company located in Chelmsford, MA, however, they have many locations all over the world! I worked with many members of the communications team including Marketers, Technical Writers, Multimedia Designers, as well as other marketing and design interns. Most of the job entailed designing promotional materials such as table cards, posters, and logos, which were internal projects for the company. Some of these designs were to promote new initiatives, updates to their website, LinkedIn and Instagram posts. Not only did I design for them, but I also worked with marketers to gather information from different departments on what people already knew about the company. We used this gathered to promote certain things to the whole company. I also got the chance to utilize my photography skills by photographing technicians and engineers so I could incorporate these images into my designs. Lastly, at the end of the internship, we had to create a presentation about our experience as an intern in front of hundreds of fellow interns and employees all across the country.

  1. What skills have you learned during your internship experience and title?

During my internship, I gained a lot of valuable experience working in a professional environment for such a large corporation. I would say the main thing I learned more about was marketing, since I interned right before I started my marketing minor. I also enjoyed collaborating with others and being on my toes constantly. The fast paced environment taught me how to time manage projects efficiently, while also producing quality work. My presentation skills also improved as I had to practice presenting my end of summer presentation in front of my team members multiple times until I felt like I could perform it seamlessly in front of many people. Overall, I feel as though my confidence in my craft significantly increased throughout my time working my internship in all aspects.

  1. Can you please share at least one challenging experience for you during your internship?

I would say one of my most surprising moments as an intern was when myself, and fellow interns, had to design an idea for a promotional sign for the new website. The company was trying to get the word out and they ended up choosing my design to go with! It was amazing to see my designs printed out all over the office.

  1. Can you please share at least one wonderfully surprising moment for you during your internship?

When I first got an offer to do this internship, I was hesitant at first because I didn’t know if I was ready yet. I decided to take the chance and it was probably one of the best experiences I could’ve gained as a student. It made me realize that I had a lot more to offer than I initially thought, as well as learning many new valuable skills and meeting new people!

  1. What is a piece of advice that you would like to give to other students looking into an internship and why are these internship opportunities important?

To anyone who is interested about doing an internship I would definitely do it! Throw yourself into new experiences because there is nothing to lose but only something to gain.
