Matthew Dacey

Biochemistry, 2025

A current junior at Merrimack College, Matthew says the choice to attend Merrimack was an easy one. “When I visited, professors always had smiles on their faces and were having friendly conversations with students outside of the classroom. They also shared their passion for research within their fields, and expressed enthusiasm for undergraduate students to partake in that research.”

Matthew had a summer internship with Metro Biotech as an Intern Chemist. Metro Biotech is a pharmaceutical company. Here, Matthew created building blocks for new organic compounds that were being made to target certain active sites in the body. “Later in the internship, I was responsible for presenting my work and sharing the results and activity levels of my molecules. I was also allowed to plan out future research with my mentor and worked on making the more complex molecules which required knowledge of many instruments that helped throughout the reactions. This was for Metro Biotech in Worcester which is part of EdenRoc Sciences.”

Merrimack always felt more like a home and a place to thrive, rather than just another four years of school.”

“My advisor taught me to always reach out for help. Everyone struggles or hits a bump in the road sometimes, but someone here is always willing to help. It doesn’t matter if you’re struggling academically, mentally, or physically. Someone is always in your corner, helping you achieve whatever goals you may have.”
