Merrimack Schola
Merrimack Schola sings and plays at Sunday Masses on campus, as well as at special services such as Baccalaureate Mass and the Mass of the Holy Spirit.
Schola – a term for a liturgical music ensemble – plays a vital role in creating the vibrant, energized and inclusive experience of liturgical worship we seek to foster at Merrimack.
Our vision is for Merrimack to be known as a center for contemporary Catholic worship. The Schola leads our worshipping assembly in song, animating the people and facilitating their active participation in the liturgy.
Schola welcomes all members of the Merrimack community who desire to sing and to grow in their musical and spiritual formation, regardless of their music or faith background. Our group sings a wide variety of sacred liturgical music in the Catholic tradition, from chant to contemporary Christian Catholic music.
The ability to read music is not required, but the desire to grow is.
Most members of Schola are singers, but instrumentalists are also invited to participate, especially guitarists and percussionists.
Students may receive one course credit per semester for participating in Schola. The group is composed primarily of undergraduates, but is also open to graduate students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends, reflecting the larger worshipping assembly on campus.
