Merrimack’s MSAT Program Helped Her Get Her Dream Job
An alumna of Merrimack’s Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) program, Dalene Gomes currently serves as the Assistant Director of Sports Medicine at Boston College. She attributes her success in her full-time role to her graduate degree, emphasizing, “I wouldn’t be where I am today without the opportunities that Merrimack provided me. The program has built a long list of competitive clinical sites that challenge each athletic training student and set them up for success. Everything I had wanted and worked extremely hard for became my reality simply because Merrimack provided me with the most optimal position to advocate for myself. The Boston College clinical rotation that Merrimack placed me in for my last year of graduate school allowed me to land the job I had dreamed of,” she explains. Dalene is a proud Double Warrior, having also earned her bachelor’s degree at Merrimack in Exercise Science. “The year I attended Merrimack was the inaugural year of the 3+2 accelerated Master’s Program. The profession made an academic transition to promote the significance of our education and background as healthcare providers.”
“Merrimack’s program was the best in this area. Not only were they one of the first to transition to the Master’s degree, but they were also offering a fully on-ground academic experience.”
Looking ahead to her athletic training future, Dalene reflects that “I feel as though where I am now, at Boston College, is nothing short of what I could have only hoped and wished for as a student going through the program. Merrimack’s MSAT program set me up to achieve my goals and only continue to hold myself to a very high expectation.” For prospective students considering a health sciences graduate program, Dalene has some advice:
“Ask questions and take advantage of every opportunity. You will never have more resources than you do while in the program. Make the most out of your time and enjoy it!”
