Chinese Delegation Visits Merrimack Campus

In Merrimack's mission to become more global, sometimes the globe comes to campus. President Zhang Hongtian of Heilongjiang Institute of Technology in China and his delegation recently visited Merrimack to tour the campus and meet with several college representatives.

The Office of International Student Support worked with educational institution Beijing Prepare to accommodate a daylong visit, which included touring the Mendel Center for Science and Engineering in addition to the rest of the campus, and meeting with President Christopher Hopey, Provost Allan Weatherax and members of the faculty.

The goal of the visit was to foster the exchange of educational opportunities abroad and on campus. A Merrimack delegation will be heading to China in late October to visit HIT and other Chinese institutions of higher learning, with hopes of possible future collaborations.

“Globalization is an integral part of today’s diverse higher education experience,” Hopey said. “President Hongtian visiting our campus represents Merrimack’s commitment to broadening international opportunities for our students and faculty members.”

According to Theresa Pettersson, associate vice president of international student support, after the visit the Chinese delegation expressed how “gracious and welcoming” they found the Merrimack community.
