Augustinian Vicar General to Address Austin Scholars Oct. 25

The Rev. Joseph L. Farrell, O.S.A., vicar general of the Order of St. Augustine, will address Merrimack College's Austin Scholars at 7 p.m. Oct. 25 in Collegiate Church of Christ the Teacher. The address is free and open to the public.

The vicar general is the second highest office in the Augustinian order and is a member of the order’s general council.

Fr. Farrell is the third speaker in the Augustinians of Note lecture series that is meant to expose Merrimack students to Augustinians other than those stationed on campus and give them a bigger picture of what work the order performs, said the Rev. Raymond Dlugos, O.S.A. He was assigned at Merrimack for several years as the director of campus ministry before leaving in the early 2000s.

“He’s been at Merrimack before and is very well known for his work in Augustinian spirituality,” said Sister Jeannemarie “Jeanne” Gribaudo, C.S.J., who is director of the Austin Scholars Program. “A lot of people from Merrimack, but also the wider Lawrence and Andover communities, know him from when he was at Merrimack years ago.”

This is the third Augustinians of Note Lecture lecture. The first was in February 2017 by the Rev. Arthur Purcaro, OSA, who is currently stationed at Villanova University’s Mission and Ministry Office but spent 35 in missions in Peru; and the Rev. Rob Hagan, OSA, the associate athletic director at Villanova University and chaplain of the men’s basketball team that won the 2016 national champion men’s basketball team appeared in October 2018.
